When do the Sunflowers bloom?

The Sunflowers are planted in multiple fields to begin blooming sometime in mid-July through September, dependent on weather. The dates can vary greatly due to the weather conditions each year, so it is best to watch the progress on our farm facebook page, or updates here on the website. Once the sunflowers start blooming we will update as often as possible so you know the condition of the fields before making your trip to the farm.

Farm Entrance Fee

Farm Fees Apply. Rate for 2024 - $20 per carload.

CASH PREFERRED for easy and quick entry. A "carload" is defined as a personal passenger vehicle with all occupants having a seatbelt or carseat. Farm fees apply to all visitors, whether walk-in, ride-in, or drive-in.

Treasured Haven Farm Sunflower Days is a self-supporting event with NO outside sponsors or donors, so your fee helps to continue opening the farm to provide all visitors with ample numbers of clean portable toilets, keep the field and woodland trail paths mown and clean, cover insurance, security and additional staff costs so your experience is enjoyable, safe, and fun. It also covers the cost of leaving portions of fields out of farm crop production to serve as walking aisles and paths, provide open prairie areas for picnics and other photo opportunities, and for safe off-road parking and entry/exit roads. While Sunflower Days may only happen in late summer, the inquiries start in early Spring and go thru the Fall and quite a large block of the farmer's time is needed to handle all those communications as well. Your visit helps us to continue this mission of sharing the peace, beauty, and experience of a genuine organic family farm.

Farm Parking

All parking is in designated areas only and is safely off-road in a marked mown grass area near the sunflower fields and gift shop. As in any parking area, please be aware of your surroundings and watch all young children carefully. Distance to the sunflowers currently in peak bloom from the parking area can vary week to week.

PLEASE NOTE: Absolutely NO PARKING ON ANY PUBLIC ROADWAYS, driveways, lawns, or other farmland for Safety reasons. The fields are located a significant distance into the farm and are not visible from the road.

Clean and Ample Porta-Potties

The farm owners pride themselves in owning and maintaining clean porta-potties that are only used for our farm guests. We have multiple units and also have a handicap-accessible unit that can also be used for families with young children.

Any Pets MUST be on a leash!

You are welcome to bring your well-behaved pets for photos on the farm as well, however, we request that for the safety of all they be controlled on a leash at all times and you clean up after them as a common courtesy. Please be respectful of other farm guests with your animals as some children can easily be frightened. Please try to browse the gift shop without pets. Large animals, such as horses, require session appointments scheduled by you or your photographer, preferably a weekday or before hours, contact Pete to schedule any appointments at 651-208-4012.

Gift Shop and Concessions

Hiking Trails

During your visit to Treasured Haven Farm you are welcome to take a walk or hike on the farm trails through the farm fields and woodlands. Many great photo opportunities are found in the woods, near the creek, and prairie areas. The trails are used to access woodland areas used for tapping maple trees and for woodland management. Additional trails were created starting in 1997 as Peg was challenged with a rare form of cancer and found the closeness with nature a pure healing experience. Creating trails was an act of pure joy that now provides an inspiring and uplifting energizing environment that we love to share with others. Please make sure to stay on established trails and do not venture into unmarked lands to respect neighboring private property.

Bring a Picnic

You are welcome to bring your blanket (tables are limited) and a picnic lunch and enjoy in the many open areas surrounding the sunflower fields. We just request that you respect the environment and leave no trash behind. Cold beverages, frozen treats (on weekends), and snacks, including tasty sunflower treats, are available in our Gift Shop.

Photo Props

Besides the fields of sunflowers, with walking paths, there are also a tractor, combine, and numerous benches of numerous styles throughout the various fields, prairie areas and surrounding woodland areas. Some benches, sunflowers and other styles, are available for purchase in the gift shop tent.

Professional Photographers

Amateur and Professional Photographers are welcome to take portrait photos on the farm at no additional charge beyond your entrance fee. ABOUT THE SUNFLOWER FIELDS:

Organic farm fields come alive with the bright beauty of hundreds of thousands of sunflowers each year on Treasured Haven Farm near Rush City, Minnesota.

The sunflowers are raised for their organic seeds to be harvested for pet treats, birdseed, or to be ground into animal feed for the farm's animals.

The Sunflower Days are held on a working family farm and so is not a man-made entertainment complex, it is a crop with a purpose where you can meet the farmers who are always onsite. Due to the rotation of crops for soil and pest management purposes, the sunflowers are planted in different fields and areas of the farm each year, so it is always a new experience. You also have access to portions of the private woodland trails that overlook a creek that runs through the farm on its way to the Scenic St. Croix Riverway. Photo opportunities abound not just in the sunflowers, but also beautiful natural prairie areas, woodlands, and overlooking the other farm fields and animals. Enjoy a picnic, and a morning, afternoon, or evening to just roam and soak in the joyful, simplistic beauty and leave the hectic world behind.

The type of Black Oil Sunflowers planted on the farm generally bloom about 65-70 days after planting, and each plant will only bloom for about a week to ten days. We now plant many succession plantings so there can be continually blooming fields for the many visitors who come to the farm for Sunflower Days usually from mid to late-July through early to mid-September, or until a hard freeze. As the successive fields bloom you will be able to see the lifecycle of the sunflower. The earlier blooming fields are harvested with a combine, the seeds cleaned with a seed cleaner, and then bagged for sale, or stored to use to grind into feed for the farm's animals. The last fields to bloom each year are left with the dried plants in the fields as food plots for the wildlife each fall and winter. More details below...
